Opti testing????

Is there any way to test it, my car misses at high rpm and the check engine light comes on and then goes away when i return to a normal cruise. I changed the coil and scnned for codes the only thing i got was a tps and replaced that, did not help. I work at napa and get the distributor, cap, and rotor extremely cheap. Is there any way to test the one i have or should i just replace. Are there any special tools required to replace it and how long should it take?

That's helpful to a point but have you checked for spark at the plugs and then coming out of the coil? Obviously if the coil is sparking, those tests listed above don't need to be done. If the plugs aren't being fired the problem lies somewhere between the coil and the plugs.

If you're getting a SES light and feel a misfire, the misfire counters are probably going up. Scanning it can find out if that's so and which cylinder if it is the case.

This may be a dumb question but how do you check for spark at the plugs? Just pull the boot off one plug at a time while the car is running?
