Opti Suggestions...

Alright Im tired of [edit] about when im going to get this thing done. Where/what should I get to replace my faulty 94 Z opti? Brand new unit from Jason Cromer? If so what is his number? If not, what should I go with? just a cap and rotor kit? msd cap and rotor? msd entire unit (read about a lot of problems though)? what do you guys think?

whoa, it's $180...was about to say get it from Jason for less than $280. But I say get as stock Delco unit, nothing else. MSD is too expensive for the same issues from what everyone is posting they are no more reliable.

If you've got a '94, that EBay unit isn't the correct optispark.

A few of months ago, Jason quoted me about 300.00 for a '94 opti. My local Chevy dealer wanted over $450.00. He also won't gouge you on shipping charges. I would have purchased from him, but I got a great deal from a fellow site member on a new opti he no longer needed.

Current GM wholesale price is $350.55. Jason will like charge that + shipping. You have to remember that prices on most of this stuff is going up, not down.

so with the miss (in the upper rpms), does it sound like i would be able to get away with just doing an msd cap and rotor? also, if your doing the cap and rotor, do you have to take it off the motor or can you leave it in? i really can't afford a BRAND NEW opti... even from jason. thats a lot of money...

You can get an MSD cap/rotor for ~150ish. If the optical sensor is fine the cap and rotor should fix it. I don't see why you would have to take it off to change the cap and rotor, but its only 3 more bolts to take it off so it would be kind of stupid not to.

We had a catastrophic failure with the MSD opti at the beginning of the year - took out the opti and oil pump. The screw - same screws that are used to attach a motherboard to a case (very small) came off and bounced around inside the opti causing a huge backfire at the big end of the track.

Went back to the good old fashioned stock opti from Dal - no problems.

Dont worry I'll be making a come back as soon as I can, just not the same up here. According to Speed2Much he'll be in the game next summer, LTX style.
