I need to replace my water pump so I figured I'd also replace the optispark while i'm at it. I read somewhere that there is now an optispark rebuild kit from AC Delco that you can buy instead of buying a whole new unit. But will this do anything if the optical sensor or whatever it's called is bad?

 

The only kit I know of is a cap and rotor. If there are many miles on the opti, I would replace the whole thing.

 

I agree wholeheartedly....i just found the rebuild kit as well on e-bay....looks like it is just a cap, rotor, and a cover of some sort....looks pretty useless as desribed. May as well just be called a cap and rotor...
