Here's what you need. I got mine at my local Parts Plus.

I have that one. The rotor bolts are like T5 or smaller. I found a site that sells individual torx screwdrivers starting at T1. I don't want to buy whole set. I'm just taking apart a dead opti. Thanks anyway.

Re: opti rotor bolts torx size ?

Hey Man I had the same Problem when I was replacing my Opti cap and rotor.
I had to find a snap-on dealer that went from dealership to dealership in my area, West chester, PA

The Cap Has male heads so you need a E-4 Female Torx Bit. It's like a socket. Your gonna need one thats on the long side cause the tiny *** torx screws are in a little well on the cap, (3 count) screw

The Rotor on the inside has female heads so you need an T-8 Male Torx Bit.
(2 Count) Screws.

Trust me, I have the bits sitting right here in front of me cause I wanted to make sure I gave you the right sizes, so I'm reading off of them as we speak. I have a 93 lt1 formula and these are what I used to get my opti cap and rotor off. Now if your having problems with the car hesitating and bucking at certain RPM's more than likely you got moisture in the opti and your gonna want to replace it. I got one through Napa it's a remanned one and I haven't had a problem yet, (knock on wood). Save yourself the hassell of taking everything apart and just replace the whole thing. # bolts hold the opti in place.

oh yeah and make sure that the Y-part of the hub is facing up where you pull the harmonic balancer off cause then the opti won't come out easy.

Good luck, any ?'s omatter67@yahoo.com

Marvin,

Most dealerships have a company that drives to their dealership like twice a week to sell tools. Snap On, Mac Tools, are the two I see alot of. Just call your local Gm or chevy dealership and ask the service department who they buy from and i'm sure they will have a # of a specific person that they see on a weekly basis. Good Luck man

Thanks for the info. I already replaced the bad opti with a GM one. I just wanted to take the failed one apart to see the damage inside.

mcmaster.com also handles the female torx sockets as a set.

Re: opti rotor bolts torx size ?

It's a T9 Torx, but a T8 will work.. [there's very little difference in the size when they get that small, probably why everyone thinks it's a T8]
Also there are 4 screws holding the cap on[not 3 like posted above]

Found it at Sears Appliance & Hardware store in screwdriver style. The T-9 fit snugger, so got that one. $2, not bad.
