opti question

well, at about 2500-3000 rpm my car started to have this popping noise in the exhaust. i got on here and checked out some threads and came along one that said that was from unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust bc the opti was bad. so i just ordered me a new MSD opti and some other stuff. i was out taking stuff off of the car to prepare for the install when the opti got here and i notice that one of the vacuum line had a good sized hole burned into it. would that have caused my problem? if it did is the opti actually still good? if anyone knows that would be awesome. thanks

Was it the fresh-air intake line, or the vacuum line? If it was the intake air line, then probably not (providing moisture wasn't sucked in). However, if it was on the vacuum line you were probably losing all vacuum and that could have caused the opti problem. Additionally, a bad coil or ICM can cause similar ignition problems.

That is the vacuum line with the check-valve. Therefore you didn't have any vacuum to the opti.

is there anyway to test an opti w/o the motor running? i just about have it completely stripped right now bc of other things i am doing to it and it wont be back together for at least a week or two. i can send that MSD opti back if i can check it and see for sure. thanks
