OPTI question??

Alright quick question. I have a delteg system, so the wires are not connected to the opti......are those holes where the wires go in open or are they just steel at the bottom, and sealed up?? I was thinking of plugging them off so dirt doesn't get in there, but then i thought.....they are probably just metal contacts for the wire??

So anyone know? I have never changed an opti so never looked up close....i just swapped over when she went out.

Re: OPTI question??

no they are not open to the inside of the distributor. but it might be a good idea to seal them with rubber caps or something in case you have to switch back to the OPTI... those caps are expensive.

IMO, it would be a good idea to remove the rotor since they come loose, break, etc. but im assuming you dont have the water pump off or anything so nvm...

Re: OPTI question??

Yea it's all still on there....tell me more about taking this rotor out? I will be putting in an electric water pump later, when summer gets here. I will have it off then, so i might take it out if it might save problems later....and weight lol.

I have the ends of the old plug wires--took them off the wires, i just can't find anything to put in the end of the boots.

Re: OPTI question??

It is sealed, there isn't any reason other then for looks. I have running that way for about a year now, with no troubles. You can buy a billet cap for $85.

Re: OPTI question??

I just cut the top part of the rotor off and kept the base so I could keep the screws tight on the optical section. You really don't have to worry about those ends since there is no current flowing through them anymore. But I cut mine off and used some RTV to cover the remaining parts of the electrodes that go into the opti.

I guess you didnt see the last time I corrected you on your spelling of DELTEQ. You have it in your signature spelled that way as well.

Re: OPTI question??

Just giving you a hard time. Its all in good fun here on CZ28.com. I was at my machine shop watching them dyno a 650 hp n/a 383 on a engine dyno. I asked the guy running the thing if they ever use shorties on the dyno, and he was like "HELL NO", made me think of you

Either way, good luck with your car, at least we have one very big thing we agree about when it comes to going fast, that the f-body is the way to do it

Re: OPTI question??

Yea i know it's all good fun....i have done my share to others It's actually fun....without controversy this board would be boring. I never really took it seriously anyway. I can't read or write so what do you expect? You'll be correcting me for years to come too.

What does he know?.he just does it for a living.... lol. Key word in there n/a. If you are going n/a you better have longtubes or you will be left in the dust.

Yea as for the header thing it was just his senerio i was speaking in...plus i thought he had the older style.....like i have....i thought they were the same till someone pointed it out. I just don't want everyone on here...(the less experience) all selling their shortie headers for longtubes...they both have their place and shorties never get enough credit on here. I never planned on keeping mine......i guess i just think everyone is going turbo/nitrous someday
