Opti or other issue?

Well I posted about this before, so I finally put some time diagnosing this.

Once the car comes out of open loop, it seems to have a slight missfire. Its not a real bad one, to the point that it pops really loud. But because I have true duals, I can go under the car, and listen to each bank of the engine to hear which side of the motor it is missfiring on. Well I found that it was the driver side. So I went ahead and pulled the plugs and wires to see if this was the issue. #5's wire had touched the primary, but didnt burn all the way trough. It just ate away at my taylor 409 wires exterior protection. So I repaired it, and fired it up to see if that was the problem. Car seemed to be idling fine. Once it came out of open loop, you could hear the slight missfire. So now Im thinking it has to be opti? I changed out the o2's a couple weeks ago thinking it was the culprit. But it wasnt.

Car has 80k on it . Its 97, so its the vented opti. Only mods I have, are cai, jet-hot LT's, lt4 KM,3.73s, and true duals . If im in Nutrual, and I bring the rpms anywhere between 1-3k you can hear the missfire. But this only happens when the car comes out of open loop? Car doesnt seem to act up in the upper rpms which is odd. But then again when I went to track recently, I cut the same times I did before I did the long tubes.

So the questions are....

1. Should I replace the opti?

2.. Should I wait alittle longer, and do a camswap as well?

3. Replace the opti for now, install the cam, when you have the money to port the heads.

4. Its not the opti its the .................

What other mod's do you have?

Optis should be replaced at around 100k. They do wear out, just like any other distributor, just not as fast.

If you have a K&N or other oiled filer, your MAF is probably contaminated. Remove it, remove the screen, and carefully clean the hotwires with solvent and a q-tip. Re-install everything, disconnect your battery for about ten minutes, then fire it up.
