Opti or ICM

The car already needs an Opti. Yesterday I was driving through town and it just died. It took quite a while to get it started back up. Then it happened again a few hours later. I let it cool down for about 5 minutes, it started right back up, but it coughed and choked. Then it was gone and had to have it towed home.

This morning. It's about 40 degrees right now. It started right up and I moved it up the driveway. Let it idle for about 10 minutes and it died again. I'm thinking it's a heat related problem. I've eliminated the coil and the fuel pump.

I've had the ICM go out once before. Once it got too hot it just shut off. What do you guys think? Opti or ICM?

Re: Opti or ICM

you can test the ICM I believe.

Any codes?
Check the MAP? Mine was bucking and sputtering and threw code 34, MAP was bad.

Need an opti and MSD cap/rotor?

Re: Opti or ICM

I'm not getting a service light. I already have a new opti. Just not the time to put it in. My MAP is about 2 months old. I'm leaning towards ICM because as soon as the car gets warm is just shuts off, another reason it because it's happened once before.

Re: Opti or ICM

I checked the connector for voltage. I have a strong 12.00-12.17 volts. I think I have all the space it needs. I'm going to have to take it back down to the the parts store to have them both checked.

Re: Opti or ICM

I took it back to the parts store. Sure enough. I bought a bad one. My old one passed until it got hot, then it failed.
