opti is going out i think!!!!
hi there,
i think my opti is going out since i didn't replaces it when i did my cam (waterpump splash)
i was thinking of the dynaspark conversion but then i thought.....
why not use an old style distrubitor
i figure all i need is to machine a hole in my EGR'less manifold right?
but seruoisly....what kinda of computer would i need to make this work ? ....FAST?
thanx
also where can i get a dynaspark?

When my optispark went, it started misfiring throughout the low-mid rpm range.
A good person to ask about this would be Injuneer Fred. I think he has an LS1-coilpack setup and is using the opti as a cam-position sensor. I'd ask him about the details of this setup, but I know for a fact that it is quite expensive.

Code 16 is a tell tale sign of Opti failure, thats what my car did before it's opti went out. I lucked out, I bought a new in box opti off a guy on HFB, my friends told me to sell it and I almost did, couple months later when my opti went out it saved my butt.
When you sad Dynaspark, do you mean the Dynatech opti?

Not worth the $600 price tag. When it comes down to it, it's still a damn optispark. For that price, you can replace your opti three times, and there's no guarantee than the Dynatech would last any longer than a normal GM opti.
Using an old style distributor is very possible, but you'll likely have cowl clearance issues.

I also wread GMHT this month have fun machining egr. the guy that built that car was a wizzard tool maker. Need like a low profile Mallory, and timing advancing/retarding would be fun.

machining would not be hard at all....TPI motors use the LT1 intake coversion all the time!!!
this months GMHTP, this guy used a LT4 in his 96z and had a old style distrubitor!!!
i just care about the computer, do i need a newer one like F.A.S.T?
