Opti bearings question

If you take the opti all the way apart you end up with the metal housing with the part that is turned by the cam and the part that turns the rotor still coupled through the bearing. Are these parts pressed together? I was going to take a look at the bearing and see if there was some way to put a new one in there or upgrade it to a roller or ball bearing, but it looks like it is pressed together and I don't want to wreck it because this unit seems in good shape after 30k mi except for the cap and rotor which I am replacing with MSD parts. The bearing seems as smooth as a ball bearing, but I'm pretty sure it is bronze bushing and thus prone to wear, slop, and failure. Mine seems pretty smooth with only a little slop, so has anyone taken it apart past this stage? Just curious.

BTW, I saw Summit is advertising a Accel opti but it has the bronze oillite bushings like the stocker.

Re: Opti bearings question

The vented Opti-Spark has a ball bearing.

Re: Opti bearings question

Thanks Tom. I think my unit will probably be a worthwhile rebuild in that case.

Wonder why the Accell opti has a bronze bushing?
