Re: Opti Bearing, is there a difference in size between Vented and non vented?

Anyone have a vented opti apart, that can measure/compare the bearing from it, to the one in the link?
The bearing in the above link is a nonvented bearing, and the question has arisen whether its the same for vented and nonvented... [ I am under the impression that they are different bearings, but I have never taken a vented apart to be 100% sure.. ]
Would like that verified if possible.. I do know there are several differences, and am curious if the bearings are different..
Joe here's a TTT for you..

They will actually fit if you do the swap. But they won't work. I discovered this after I had put my 383 in my 95 Z, out of my buddy's 93 Vette. I kept going through opti's like there was no tomorrow, and I couldn't figure out why, until I found that for the 93's and 94's (non-vented opti's) there is a pin in the cam that fits into the non-vented opti's. Although my vented opti would fit onto the motor and run at first just fine, eventually the pin from the cam would grind out the inside of my opti, causing it to fry. I eventually swapped cam's and its been running like a champ ever since.

Were talking of the bearing within the Opti, not the Opti itself as we know the differences in years etc.

The bearings are different diameters. Are you trying to replace just the bearing? How would you retime the assembly if so?

Just a quick note, DYnaspark says they are the same size. SO, hopefully we will see when 194bird looks at his.

It would be very helpful if someone with a vented opti could post the NTN p/n and/or the actual dimensions..
As a side note, I have taken unvented optis down to the bearing, and back together again, no prob[ tho it IS tricky it can be done..]

I have an old vented opti. I'll post any numbers on the bearing when I get home tonight.

Sorry, I can't get the bearing out of the housing to get any PN or measurements.

I took a vented unit apart a couple of years ago to look at the bearing.
I had to destroy the plate the optical wheel attaches to in order to get it apart.

SX03A13LLUACS25..... Bearing race is machined with double recess (notch), to allow install from either side.

Down to the bearing, as in actually having taken the bearing off the shaft? But yes, it can be done. Do suggest taking accurate/precise notes B4 disassembly. I'd still recommend checking ign. timing after engine install.

Re: Opti Bearing, is there a difference in size between Vented and non vented?

A/G would it be possible to get a pic and/or measurements?

unvented opti bearing p/n is: # NTN SX0389LLUACS25/L #01
vented p/n is: SX03A13LUACS25?
If they are indeed the same bearing.. why different part numbers?
I believe they are different bearings..
And you can get it out without destroying the shutter wheel [I have done it, unvented opti, down to just the bearing itself..] I can take pics of the unvented bearing if anyones interested..

Unfortunately, not in the near future. It will look similar the pic above, just with notch on both sides.

vented p/n is: SX03A13LUACS25?

Better look at my post again.

I believe they are different bearings..

As verified with the different #.

Yes you can. However, as noted above, it will depend on the corrosion and other useage related crap you have to deal with.
