Opti for 94 LT1?

I was wondering if an optispark, for a 95-97 LT1, will fit in a 94 LT1? The reason is that I obtained an optispark that seems to be vented, for the 95-97 LT1, but it is listed as functional for 93-97 LT1's in the auto parts store computer. Is it possible to use the optispark I got, without any modifications or problems, other than using the vent tube?

Here's a good description of the differences.

No, I will not fit a 94. Drive mechanisms are different.

Re: Opti for 94 LT1?

Sorry, I didn't make my post real clear. It seems that the opti I go is not really the whole opti assembly. It looks like it's just the cap and rotor along with the cover and shield, but it did not come with base part that connects to the drive mechanisn. I would like to know if replacing the "cap and rotor" will take care of my optispark problem, or do I need the whole assembly to be new? Thanks in advance.

My car still turns on fine and runs, but it just stutters and seems to be misfiring. Especially when put into drive from Park or Neutral.

Re: Opti for 94 LT1?

Depends on what the problem is as to whether the cap and rotor will fix it. If your rotor is held on the same way as the vented opti rotor is, then you should be able to use the cap and rotor you have. You will probably want to do something to keep moisture out of the vent port of the new cap, though.

Re: Opti for 94 LT1?

It does seem like the cap fits the same way as the one for 93-94. I hope replacing the cap and rotor makes my car run better. I think it's just a worn out cap and rotor, since I'm not throwing any codes.

Most likely the cap and rotor will fix it.
I changed out the whole opti when I did mine but the optical portion seemed fine and the cap and rotor were in real bad shape.
I cobbled together an advance auto optical portion with a GM vented cap and rotor and its been just fine for over 20k. I blocked off the vent tube with a vacuum plug, you can get an assortment from the parts store.

Re: Opti for 94 LT1?

Sweet, thanks. That gives me more relief. I'm gonna do the same with my new cap. I'll probably just keep it until I can afford the Dynaspark Opti or go with the Delteq system. Thanks for the input.
