Are the dynasparks for the 93's & 94's vented? It looks like they are in the pics, but I was just curious if anyone knew for sure. $599.00 is a lot of coin. Can they be found for less?

Dynaspark

My optis were failing also, Even purchased a brand new one from the dealer and it was dead from the get got. Finally got a Dynaspark all problems went away, But after about a year it had some electronic failure, sent it back to Dynaspark and they repaired it for $30.00 and it came back looking like a brand new unit. No problems since.

My car:
95 Z28 supercharged
648 RWHP/612 TQ Pump Gas
722 RWHP/713 TQ Fast Gas. Daily Driver........

Your doing something wrong, somethings broken or somethings not setup right..

You have a 95 so it should be vented...
Check your vaccum lines to make sure theyre working right? If its plugged maybe the slightest moisture getting in there is causing the failure and making it that much easier for the opti to die..

What---no TB bypass? With the bypass the coolant shouldn't be anywheres near the opti. I.e., tube from heads direct to radiator. I believe you need to isolate and insolate the opti from possible leakage sources, including directing the weep hole away from the opti if necessary.JMHO

i think it is due to oil getting in it fomr the opti seal, i replaced it last time i did the opti swap but she is leaking agaon so i am gogint o replace it and switch to a dynaspark.... and i have brand new hoses i will be using as well as a brand new harness for it, i do not want to do another opti install again! i have blown like 4 in the past 3 years...and the last 2 blew fast. i have a good bud who is gogint o work on her with me and double check all my work just to insure perfection.

speeddemon what did your problem end up being?

A buddy of mine has a dynaspark and it failed immediately. I have yet to obtain it and take it apart. OEM piece worked fine and has for over a year now.

I have had a stock NON vented opti OEM running on my 94 for about 150,000 without ANY issues. NONE. I have recently converted to vented, and have bought a new OEM opti. I don't expect any issues at all with this.

I'm on my 4th opti. Including a dynaspark.
#1 rotor/ cap explosion.
#2 dynaspark green corrosion problem on cap.
#3 Summit gm oem rotor/ cap explosion after 2 weeks.
#4 replacement from Summit gm oem now in use.

Upon delivery of #4, I voided warantee and inserted alum 1/8 rivets in the plastic rotor/ contact. So far OK.
Also modified the vent system for additional air flow.

But, most of these problems may have been caused by me when I modified the ignition with a MSD 6a and 8202 blaster coil. (97SS 383 - D1)

how do guys feel about msd first gen opti? I think they are about $500 or so, would it be worth the extra $100 for the dynaspark?

thanks

I do not know much about the warrenty for the msd, it may be a lifelong warrenty, which would be nice, but $100 for a dynaspark in my opinion would be worth it. I just got mine in the mail yesturday and will be installing it on thursay, the peice looks amazing, and seems to have a few features that are real nice to have like a rubber seal to but up against the timing chain around the opti seal... i like it alot in other words, hopefully it performs well.

I would not buy the dynaspark again. They have special fasteners to prevent us yo-hos from disassembly. Probably void the warantee for disassembly. I dissected mine. The cnc base cover is a nice piece, and, it did not fit my engine that well (97SS - I had to machine the back of cover/ case). All of the guts (rotor - hi-rez wheel/ sensor) are the same as the gm unit. I did not think the internal cover fit well (kind of loose and not keyed). The gm unit had a better fit. Dyna-spark ports the case in different places.
ANyway, just my opinion.
