i am doing a engine swap on my 94. haveing to but all the parts peice by peice. it is a 355 with a comp 304 cam, it has a long dowel pin sticking out the front of it,the cover is from the same block a 93. when i try to install the cover it hits the dowel pin. to install a 93-94 opti do i need to shorten the length of the pin, or what do i need to do. i would like to use a 95 opti on it can anyone help me out on this.
Re: opti
Sounds like you need to shorten the dowel pin. Just match it to the old cam. As for putting a 95 opti on there. Youll need a 95 timing cover, opti vents, newer opti harness and a 95+ intake elbow with the hole for one of those vent tubes to feed into. You COULD use a 96-97 timing cover but they have a crank sensor on them. Its not a big deal if its all you can find as long as you make sure the sensor is still in place or youll have a nice hole in the bottom of the timing cover.
