Opti for $299.99?

I just called Jason Crommer and I thought the price for these were only $209 something. Wheew inflation sucks i guess. granted that $299 is the complete change over, you can get a lifetime opti from autozone for $150, thats a little more than half the price.

Can someone verify the $299 price? I must of not sounded nice enough or something

That sounds really high. My friend just ordered a water pump and opti from him last week and the total was like $3XX. And when I ordered my opti from him a year and a half ago it was around $180 or so (I don't remeber exactly).

Oh that might be the case then...I guess it wouldnt be much of a hassle to do a vented one.

That is the correct price for a non-vented as stated before. A vented will be closer to $200 if I'm correct

1800 477 5451. Dal has them for $198 shipped. Thats what I paid for one in May. I thought the vented opti was more than non vented.

ok i realized that i asked for a non vented and thats the actual price for the non vented. Vented is about $200.

Now that i realized the vented is cheaper, i called up my work (autozone) and found that i can get a vented dist for $130-20%. BUT can you use a vented dist, with a non vented cap n rotor????

I really dont want to buy a whole cap n rotor again. If i have to then, it would be cheaper for me to buy form jason crommer, assuming its only $200 for the whole dist, cap n rotor.

hmmm...thinking

What year is your car?
93-4 are unvented, 95-7 are vented.
You just can't interchange them without replacing other items, cam timing cover etc.
I do believe that the caps interchange though?
And yes Cromer's are complete GM units with cap and rotor..

Here's the facts.
  • Vented optisparks (~$200) are cheaper than un-vented (~$280).
  • They are not directly interchangeable. You will need a 95+ style timing cover, cam (Yes, a new cam...dowel pins on a 95+ model for vented optisparks must extend .620" away from the cam face. On pre-95 models, the cam dowel pin is .300" away from the cam face, designed seperately for the splined drive of the optispark. You'd need a new cam with a longer dowel pin for the conversion), vacuum hoses, intake fittings, crank gear and chain (might as well), harness, and the optispark itself (everything on this page, basically).
  • Not many people have been very successful with just replacing the cap and rotor, including myself. Your best bet is to install a brand new GM optispark.

Hope this helps.

What Opti does a '93 use? How much? And when buying a cam, will I have to specify (GM847)? Thanks

93s use a non-vented opti.

When you purchase a cam, the dowel pin will come longer than necessary, and you will trim it to proper length (.300" for non-vented, .620" for vented).
