Opinions Please

Hi Guys,

I have about 58k on my stock engine and wanted to do a head cam upgrade. I just ordered an FLT level 4 and a Yank SS3200 for my car so I dont really have the money to do the bottom end right now. Drivability and emmissions are important. I was thinking of getting my heads ported and going with a Crane 227. DO you think my stock shortblock will be ok with that. The engine has always been very well maintained. I dont race at all. Its just a summer weekend car.

I just hear a lot of horror stories about cam swaps in LT1s. I know a lot of people with LS1s and they are telling me not to do it because I will def spin a bearing. Your thought are really appreciated.

Have a great holiday and I wish for a safe return for all our patriots in the armed forces.

You'll be ok as long as there is some quality to the work and stop listening to LS1 people.

Thanks Shoebox....so just take my time, keep it clean and I should be ok. Do you think I should change the front cam bearing? Or is it not necessary with that many miles. I wont be spinning the engine past 5700. Thats why I want the torquey cam.

What kind of numbers do you think I can expect from that combo? I was also debating going with the Lingenfelter heads and cam (211/219). Sounds like a solid setup for the street.

after you drain the coolant use a shop vac to blow the rest out of the engine, the less you coolant get in the oil the less chance of a spun bearing.

piffle and flummery - make sure you get the proper springs and cam lube with that cam. replace the valve seals and inspect the lifters, with that low mileage I don't forsee any problems there though. keep it clean and do it all at the same time and you'll be fine.

Awesome....great to hear. I'm pretty **** when it comes to working on the car so I will take my time and do it right. Plus I dont abuse it so why spend all that money on a shortblock. Id rather get a 12 bolt to go with my new tranny...lol

More opinions are welcome.

Thanks everyone....the LS1 guys are always trying to ruin my party. They think the LT1 is a piece of crap....I must say I disagree. Mine runs like a top.

I am contacting Advanced Induction for a package as well. Im just looking for 350-360 RWHP so I dont think it should be hard for those guys to come up with something.

They have LS1's, comparing the ls1 to the lt1, the lt1 is a piece of crap lol.

If you're only looking for 350-360 rwhp, you "might" be able to do that with just the cam.
