opinions please

I've got the engine/trans of my '95Z out of the car. I'm repairing oil leaks (intake & valve cover), replacing a bad clutch, fixing the A/C, and having the transmission rebuilt among other exterior and interior repairs.

I've read just about every post here about a cam install. I simply can't afford to do it right with everything, (cam, rrs, springs, etc and no way can do heads right now.

I am adding Mac mid-length headers as my main inprovement.

Here's the question. Should I go ahead and change just the cam with something on the mild side (so as to not stress springs, etc but get some benefit) or should I just leave it stock until I can do a complete upgrade?

If you vote for cam install, I'm open to suggestions. Again I've researched posts here so I already have some good ideas.

I would suggest doing the cam and springs now while you have the engine out. You can find the parts you need from members here if you can't afford out-of-the box stuff. Decide what you want to do as far as the cam you want and go from there. I believe that many a spun bearing could have been avoided had the cam been installed while the engine was out of the car. You will have to do the headers with the engine in the car anyway, and the heads can be pulled for work or exchange while the engine is in the bay.

Changing the cam is the single most important ingrediant in adding power. The heads, headers, etc are to enhance the abililty of the cam to add that power through better breathing.

Do youself a solid and get that cam and springs in there now. As far as RRs, you can add them later alsok, but you will need the springs that go with the cam at the same time. JMHO

We can all recommend the cam and springs based on your plans on how you intend to use the car and what you expect in terms of performance.
