Opinions On Changing Oil??

when do u guys think is the best time to change the oil? when the car is HOT or COLD??

HOT because the oil will flow better?

or
COLD cause everything has settled to the bottom of the pan?

Cold so you dont burn your hands and get hella hot under your car.
Are you sure oil flows easier when hot?

I'd say good and warm too. Afterall, Jiffy Lube doesn't wait for them to cool down.

LOL neways actually i change mine like every 2k...

yea it seems like when its hot its like water flowing out of there and when its cold its like REALLY slow.. which is weird cause when its hotter the oil is supposed to get thicker and what not

You need to change it with the oil hot. I change my oil after the car has run for at least 20 minutes, I even let the car idle while I'm getting the ramps out to put it on, and then as soon as I turn off the motor I'm under there draining. When your oil is hot all the "contaminants" that you want to get out are suspended in there. If the oil is cold the contaminants may have floated to the top or bottom etc.

Also to get the REST of those 'thingys' out, its a good idea to flush a 1/2 or 1 quart through before you plug it again, thats what I did!

I agree with this only if you leave the plug out for about an hour so all the oil can make it's way back down to the pan. At that point, I'd be afraid moisture has worked it's way up into the pan or a fly... or beetle... or gosh darn near anything.

I favor draining when it's cold. That way I know everything has made it's way down to the pan (or all that's gonna at least).

I'm no expert on the oil's route through the engine and filter, so if I'm missing something, feel free to correct me

Well I usually leave the plug out of it for a good half hour, and even if moisture gets in there it will just burn off. However, about getting other things in there....... I guess anything is possible! In my last car I did an oil change and a leaf came out of the hole

I always change it when it's hot. Last time I replaced the plug with a Fram SureDrain thing. Think that should make for an easier/cleaner job next time.
