ok.. well enought with the arguing over the ci.. i respect both opinions but will not change over to 383.. the 355 is the ci.. so on that note.. back to the question..

Re: opinion on combo

any one think i could benefit from a better exhuast syste.. right now its just mandrel 3" single.. i was debating on a larger mufflex system or daul 3".. think it would gain a little hp?

also have the chance to get some 32# inj.. think they would support the hp?

Re: opinion on combo

i would leave the 3" on it. the 32lb injectors should work.

Re: opinion on combo

ever look into duals? 2.5" duals would equate to ~3.5" catback and 3" duals would equate to ~4" catback.

Actually the Scat 9000 is a very well preped cast crank with nice big radius corners on the journals and also is made of a grade of steel that has twice the elongation of a stock GM crank, so it's going to take more of a beating before it breaks.

I've seen old school cast SBC cranks both 400 and 350 ones that were prepped well hold 500+hp all day long. They are not good for circle track applications where high RPM loads are put on them all the time, but street stuff is not going to break cranks. The stock LT1 crank is about the best version of a stock GM cast crank as you can get too.

Both a 383 and a 355 can be done to do some damage. Really the problem is in the induction system and getting it done right so you can take advantage of the cubes. I'm usually a fan of stock cubes, but a 383 is really a good way to pick up average TQ. No replacement for displacement!

Re: opinion on combo

the reason i said the scat 9000 woundnt be my first choice is because its not only a heads/cam, but a nitrous setup too. it might live for years, but its still cast and will break depending on how often it gets sprayed and if it sees any detonation all bets are off. its not that much more to go 4340. theres my $.02

Good work, and good product.

If you go with coatings, do it right and go the full monte, as in chambers, valve faces (running nitrous, I would also do the backside of the exhaust valve), and the piston face. Might wanna do a friction coating on the skirts too, but thats up to you (as are all the others ).

Re: opinion on combo

I had a 95 Z with a 0 deck 355, stock crank, rods, and stock replacement .030 over 4 valve relief pistons. I ported the heads on my back porch, didnt touch the intake, 52 mm throttle body, 30# injectors, mexier water pump, cold a$$ a/c, good heater, car weighed 3820 with me in it, and it had the stock 3.23 gears. It went a 7.85 with a 1.61 60 foot. It also had a comp 224/230 114 lsa 523/538 lift cam with 1.6 rr. Personall i love a 355 when you have the right cam/head combo. Oh and by the way when it went the 7.85 it was burning a quart of oil ever 4 passes.
