Opinion on 12 sec Recipe

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for advice on how to turn my camaro into a 12 sec car. As you can see I already have some mods and have a few more waiting to be installed.
I was mainly thinking about the LT4 Hotcam Kit. Do you think that it will do the job ? I know there are bigger cams but I kinda like the idea of a bolt on kit ready in one package .... plus I also want to use the car as a daily driver.
What are your opinions on my setup, I would like to hear your comments on how I can do better on my 12sec project....
Thanks everyone,
-Alex

Re: Opinion on 12 sec Recipe

Everyone is so hot on the hotcams! I just got a CC306 which I've heard great things about. The LT4 Hotcam is a bit milder than the 306, so I've heard, but supposedly, the 306 is still very streetable (I haven't installed mine yet). You will need chip tuning after either cam swap, especially to realize the full potential of either cam.

When doing the cam, you will definitely need new springs. I would also recommend doing the lifters and pushrods as well as going to 1.6 rocker arms at the same time. With the cam, valvetrain and the mods you listed (especially the headers) that should put you inside 12secs.

the hotcam is a good cam, but there are more cams out there that will run the hotcam and still have the same amount of drivability...check the GP forum, theres always vendors that sell complete kits also

Thanks for you advice... I heard about the thunderracing cam package but I couldn't find it... did they stop offering it ?
What other vendors would offer a complete cam package ?

Re: Opinion on 12 sec Recipe

XE 224/230, CC 305 or the hotcam are all decent cams for that range, with the 224/230 giving you the most power with everything else being even. As for the comment on the 306, the XE 230/236 is more streetable and can see more power than the 306. The 306 poses more wear on your valvetrain than the 230/236 does.

...and yes, the hotcam kit on a M6 with good tuning and full exhaust will get you into the 12's no problem...

The HOT CAM will get you in the 12's if with the supporting mods. I have the hot cam and it is very streetable. If you want a smaller cam go with the 224/230. I find myself wanting a bigger cam constantly, so keep that in mind.

Also, a good place to get a cam kit from is Combination Motorsports.

Thunder Racing is who I do most of my business with but I don't think they offer a "kit".

Re: Opinion on 12 sec Recipe

I hear the CC305 is really good too and much more streetable then the CC306. CC306 adds more power, but the CC305 is emissions legal. Isn't the 305 bigger then a hotcam? Anyway, I think you could possibly be in the 12's without the cam if you drive well enough with good tires. The cam will just get your there for damn sure.

Thumbs up Re: Opinion on 12 sec Recipe

The Hot Cam will definately get you into the 12's with headers/exhaust and sticky tires. It got me low 12.30's on my full wieght, stock headed, A4 Z..

It is a great everyday cam. Super drivability and still has that low end TQ.... I personally think I am ready for something a little bigger but I will keep the Hot Cam for maybe another year....

Good Luck

Re: Opinion on 12 sec Recipe

Somnambulist, I meant if I were going to go with a small cam in a car that I was going to drive daily I would go with the 224/230. I didn't mean that it was smaller than the hot cam. I guess I worded it wrong, my bad.

Also, the cc305 is very, very close to the specs of the hot cam. hot cam is 218/228 and the cc305 is 220/230, I think.
