Only Getting 120 Miles A Tank

I was wondering if this is about right, 120 miles a tank? My car is basickly stock, what can I do to better my gas mileage? I really didn't mine before but with gas price being so high $2.95 gallon its getting real expensive. I spend about 60-70 bucks a week , so I have been really thinking about selling my car and buying a honda or toyota.

That is DEFINITELY not good!!! Around town I can drive about 90 miles before my car even comes off Full On the hwy I drove 192miles and I was still above 3/4 of a tank....you need to do a MAJOR tune up!!!

Are you on the stock air intake? If so, replace the paper filter with a better one or get a K&N FIPK or any of the other major ones (ie moroso, etc).
Replace your fuel filter
Check plugs and wires.
Is the car chugging or just a dog when you mash the gas?

How many miles on car? Consider new plugs/wires and O2 sensors.

yeah, and change fuel filter, clean your MAF wires (carefully), cahnge spark plugs, uninstall the HPP III, get a better tune, throw on a better intake, change O2s

if that don't help, maybe it's your opti

also, what % city/hwy ?

Another big influence will be how you drive it. On weekends I usually get around 160 miles/tank and during the week around 185-200. However, on the weekends, I am usually mashing the gas more than not.
Lead foot=bad gas mileage.

Re: Only Getting 120 Miles A Tank

new plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, 02 sensors, and a lighter foot should all get your gas milage alot better.

if you want a k&n filter for your stock box, i have one for sale. i had it posted in the for sale section a while ago but the buyer never came through. it was just reoiled and is reusable. i'll sell it to you for 15 shipped if you want it. (theyre like 40+ brand new)

If you have a 160 thermostat in, try putting the stocker back in. I did that for my long trip back to school (450+ miles) and I actually went from 22 to almost 26 mpg on the freeway! Not bad for an A4 going about 75 mph.

With that many miles your not going to get very good gas miliage, too much stuff is worn out and needs to be replaced. Also mind the speed limits this helps alitte.

I have 111,000 miles and I've gotten 17 mpg in town! But I think he should replace plugs, wires, fuel filter, O2's, and before you do this SEAFOAM it. That should help clean the combustion chambers. This isnt a complete list but its a good start.

Re: Only Getting 120 Miles A Tank

That's typical LA city driving mpg. I live in the LA area too, and when you spend more time stopped than not, and red lights every 1/8-1/4 mile, you're just not going to see decent mpg. I usually see 140-160miles until I hit E, but then again when I fill up, I still have 2-3gallons left. So I see ~10-12mpg all city.

Also, I don't know about you, but I drive in short spirts. So the car spends time warming up, sits in constant traffic, then gets turned off after a few miles. Therefore gas mileage = crapola.

Don't you love LA
