Old input shaft ?? What did you align cluth with. Aligment tool with clutch won't do

As many of you know, the alignment tools that come with the clutc hardly ever works for anyone. Mine does not either . There is too much play, but when i put the pressure plate and flywheel on the input shaft of the transmission, it fit perfect and the disc did not move up and down on the pressure plate. Again, using the tool that came with the Spec(star) cluth, the disc would move on the pressure plate. We went ahead and tried to put the transmission on anyways, but it won't sit flush. I was thinking it was because of the tool not aligning the clutch right. Nothing is hanging or hitting. We turned the tranny back and forth, and pushed pretty good, but it won't go flush against the bellhousing. It looks like about an inch or so to go. The pins on the trans almost touch the bellhousing, and they are probably a little less than an inch, so that is about how much we have to go.

We new before we started that it probably would not work, but I don't have an old input shaft, so we just wanted to try anyways.

Someone told us to try and turn the rear shaft of the transmission , so the input shaft can turn, and maybe this will get the input splins line up in the clutch and pressure plate. Did any of you have to do this. And again, what did you align yours with.

What did you use? Did you have to get an old INPUT shaft, or did the alignment tool with the clutch work for you. I have only heard of one person that actually used the alignment tool. What did you gals/guys use?

Even with the tool sometimes you just have to twist and shove the s**t out of 'em to get it to pop on there!I've had mine out a lot and sometimes it went right in and sometimes I had to wrestle till my arms felt like they were going to fall off.If you are that close, you're already through the clutch anyhow, you just need to get the end to push into the pilot bushing.

Thanks. I was thinking that same thing. It should already be in the clutch pretty good , because again, there is less than an inch to go. But I thought if everything was lined up ok, the input shaft "nipple" should go right in. We'll keep trying.

Thanks.

A lot of people say never use the bolts to draw the trans into place but if you are to the dowels and you carefully tighten a little at a time, one side then the other, while working the trans around it helps. You should just never start tightening them down to force it into place.

mine is a bish like that as well... what i do is liine mine up and then i just eyeball the center of it so that the middle where the alignment tool goes in is center... like i said its kinda goofy but youll see what i mean.. you get the hang of it after youve taken your clutch out like a million times

I also had troubles getting the nipple in the hole. I eyeballed the alignment too since none of the adaptors I had in my clutch alignment tool kit worked too well. I finally just started tightening down the bolts a little bit at a time in a star pattern and it pulled the tranny right in.

Iv'e done this a couple of times.
Get the trans close enough to start a couple of bolts.
Then have someone push in the clutch pedal.
Trans will move in flush with the bell housing.
Good luck

I just recently put a new clutch on my new motor, and I used a clutch alignment tool that I purchased from O'Reilly Auto Parts. That tool fit so well, and my motor mated up to the bell-housing without any effort whatsoever!
