Okay this is the story!

How tight is the Pinion suppossed to be?

I brought an Electric impact gun and Torqued the Hell out the damn thing! I started doing it by hand and even did the trick extension to it...got it to where there was like 1mm of play but couldn't go any further...So I torqued the Sh*t out of it with the gun...now is this thing supposed to spin freely? or is it supposed to have some kind of resistance? I can spin it with my hand but it feels kind of tight ...and that's without the Nut on it...Just spinning it with the yoke.

Ya already frucked it up there Boss. You were suppose to mark the nut before you took it off and check the ft lbs of resistance or in lbs of how hard it was to turn.

It would have been impossible to have done that. The nut was never on there right from the beginning. This is a blind job I"m doing.

I think when re-installing a used bearing there is supposed to have 15 in/lbs of "rolling" resistance. A new bearing around 25 in/lbs.

Everything is set up properly...I brought the Pinion depth tool and all the other stuff necessary...I just couldn't find a store that sales the in lbs TQ wrench with the dial. No one had it. I had to rebuild my rear after a ******** mechanic screwed everything up... By "Blind job" I mean I had none of my OEM shims to match up to figure out what was what...so I had to calculate what to add based on random info I got. Crushing the New Sleeve what I needed to use the impact wrench for. I don't htink it would have been physicly possible to do by hand alone. The Wrench even had to be pressed on the nut for a while to kill the slack out before the crush sleeve got to work. There's a blind way to figure out the rolling resistance...just wondering if anyone knew what it was...

Yes used bearing[new seal] 10-15 in lb[about ONE ft-lb]
new bearing [new seal] 15-25 in lb...[about TWO ft-lb]
remember a new seal is dragging it a bit..

Digging into a far corner of brain here[can't find it anywhere in 'writing'] I recall reading if you spin by hand it should 'coast' 1/4 turn?[i believe that's the 'ghetto method spec' you're looking for?]
I sure wouldn't rely on it tho [and I am not positive about the 1/4 turn...]
It is tight enough that there's no shake right? and NOT so tight it's binding[if so sleeve is 'ruined']
Yes inch-pound torque wrenches are hard to find and also pricey..
I'd sure try to find/borrow/rent one..
Good luck..

the pinion itsef without any yoke or nut on it has 0 slack...it spins freely...with the yoke and nut on it still has 0 movement back and forth....i'm not sure what to do to get the preload accurate...not even the specailty stores had the preload inch tq wrench.
