Ok to splice electric lines in the fuel tank?

I'm trying to splice in the harness for my walbro, is it alright if i splice the electric lines for the new connector seeing as it sits down by the fuel?

Remove the two vacuum-ish hoses and the two hard lines coming out of the tank. Cut the 3 electrical wires as well. That way you can pull the whole module out and take it to a workbench. It will be ok to splice those lines but I would prefer solder over all other forms considering it's sitting in gas..
