ok... some serious and honest help needed

ok... i have a 94 z28.. like many of you have already seen from my other posts... im at the 150000 mile mark... and i was driving the other day... racin around with friends... well since that night... the car has just seemed to be pushin even harder to get to speed... and it even seems like its pulling the the tranny shifts...(A4)... so i need honest and truely serious answers here... heres my predicament... i should have about... 1000 saved up by march... and along with my birthday that month... im hopin to have about 1500 at least... the engine seriously does not seem like its gonna last much longer... and i would hate to lose this car... so what can i do to make this engine last longer til i save up to do a rebuild or am able to get a new crate engine? specific things to change out, tighten down... and so on...

welp, here's a few easy steps you can take.

- Stop racing around with friends
-Limit the amount of miles you put on it from now until you feel you have enough cash to rebuild your motor. ($2K)
-Buy a pooper! (Definition of a pooper= A vehicle with the ability to get you from point A to point B that costs under $500.) My poopers the **** (no point intended) and it keeps the miles off the good vehicles. Just need to price around.

if you feel you are mechanically inclined enough, attempt a tune up plugs, fluids, filter (air and A4).

Looking back at your past threads and "mods", including the tornado "fuel saver", I think the first thing you need to do is stop spending money on "mods" and start spending time learning about how cars work.

Get the FSM. Read it.

Do all the basic maintenance that should be done when buying any high mileage used car.

Go find some websites that give info on "car 101" and read them. Don't have any suggestions there, but I'm sure such a thing must exist.

Stop "racing around." Especially in a car of questionable condition.

new cam kit and bottom end is alone $2000, plus hot tank, parts cleaner, bore it out etc. is another 500 plus. plus gaskets and whatever else you break in the process and trust me you will break stuff acidentally. so i would say save up $2500-$3000. thats what mine cost. and it was well worth it. Oh and thats if you do the work yourself

start looking for a used / low millage complete lt1. you can get one with 60-80k on it for less then a grand.

how technically inclined are you? if you cant do it yourself your screwed if you need to pay someone to do it

If your not mechanically inclined, why not take it to a garage to see whats wrong at least? Where I work, we never charge just to see WHAT is wrong, inless it gets kinda involved. Then you'll at least know if its a missfire, bad sensor, etc. or if your engine is on its last leg. SES light on? Get it on a diagnostic scanner.

And maybe pick up a second job? You outta see if you can weasel your way in at a garage or something as a shop bitch. You'd be suprised what you learn for free.
