well maybe I am stupid....I told them I have a 95 z28 and need a dowel pin for the cam....after spending about 30 mins of them trying to find out what part it is, they find it....I wait almost a week for it to come in....I bought it...and then guess what....its too short. Ok the car is going together, where can I get one ASAP? could I use something from the hardware store?

 

Try a machine shop, or McMaster-Carr on line or just get a longer one and shorten it to the right length.

 

parts guys are retarded. lol i was calling around looking for an optispark harness and the guy was like "wait, whats an optispark? that a pet name for something?" he was getting all ****ty with me like i was stupid.

 

A good machine shop should have the correct dowel pin and be able to install it for you as well.

 

i can agree with you saying parts guys are retards, i had to order a intake elbow for the lt1 and the guy had know idea what i was talking about. I ended telling him the hose that comes off the the trottle body and takes a 90 degree turn and connectors to the mass air flow.

iight ill have to find another local machine shop, cuz apareantly NAPA's Machine Shop doesnt carry dowel pins

 

Even though we all wish parts people would recognize parts for f-bodys you have to consider that they get a bazillion phone calls to reference parts from many different vehicles every day.

GM books still refer the opti spark as a distributor.

yeah i did, that was the first term I used, then I said intake elbow and still didnt understand. Next i had to explain how it runs off the trottlebody to the mas air flow and down from there to the air box

 

the best thing to do is to download the f-body parts manual. that way you can just rattle off the part number and save the headach of having to explain anything.

 

Yeah, if you give them a sheet of part numbers, they sometimes think you work for a jobber and give you a discount off their outrageous retail.

I don't think you can expect a parts guy to have specific knowledge of all parts because that's just too much to ask with the millions of models out there. You really need to ask them to bring up the microfiche and point to what you want - they will usually work with you like that. Or else get the part number yourself, as suggested.

 

Where can I download the F body parts manual? That could definitely come in handy.
