Ok Now I really need help, Im overheating like crazy

Ok, Today I started my car up and I was putting in refrigerant cause the a/c was crappy. So Im sitting there in the driveway. Outside temp around 75-80 degrees. And the car was idleing in the driveway for about 20 mins to a half hour and the damn temp gauge is getting up to 240-250 What is going on? I shut it off and put some more coolant in. Then did it again and boom up to 250 again. And I had a 160 degree thermostat in there, i guess thats not working. But why is my car overheating, when its idleing in my driveway. PLEASE PLEASE help me out, im dying here

first things to look at is water and airflow through the radiator.

check for the fans comming on. or a blockage in the rad.

Having a 160 thermo means at 170 it will open. Idling in the driveway makes the coolant just circulate and without air going thru the radiator it is not going to cool down. Make sure the fans come on or are coming on or get a switch to turn the fans on earlier.

I dont want to make a seperate thread with this simple question..

If the temp gauge inside of your car is for some reason disconnected, will the fans still turn on? Yes right, because the thermostats still in there?

And where is the temp gauge connection? we installed headers on my car a week ago and i realized the other day my temp gauge wasnt moving at all..

i'd say check the fan. if at 240 degree the fan kicks in, then it is still normal.

what you might want to do is lower you cooling fan temp, or you can get a manual fan switch.

hope this helps
