OK for me to switch back to nonsynthetic oil??
OK for me to switch back to nonsynthetic oil??
When i first bought my car a couple of months ago i had Mobil 1 synthetic put in. Im a little strapped for cash this time so i wanted to know if it was safe to put regular oil in such as castrol 10w30 in it this time. I noticed it leaked a little more with the synthetic also. So what should i do?
It will be fine on regular oil. Cars leak a little more with synthetic, but if you got a leak fix it. Weres it comming from? LT1s leak in a couple spots, Intake and front seal are the big ones.

not leaking much at all toward the rear of the engine, just the front. I noticed yesterday on the lift the crank pulley, opti wires, bottom of waterpump, k-member is coated also, basically the whole front bottom half has a thin layer of oil on it. And it is definately the synthetic i put in it. I did a search and am probably gonna decide to go ahead and shell out the extra dollars to do synthetic. Im gonnna get under there with a towel and wipe up all the excess oil and then check it again to see where they are coming from. Any ideas on where it is leaking?
The leak is probably the intake or front seal...if its bad you should probably get it fixed...mine's been fine its just a real slow leak, like not really even noticable. One more thing...why don't you just stretch your change interval from 3k to 5k if you're strapped for cash? I get mobile 1 synthetic put in at wal mart every 3 to 5k depending on my funds and they'r echeap too 26 bucks.
Unless you're doing it for ****s and giggles, or just want the extra peace of mind, changing synthetic oil every 3-5k miles is pretty pointless nowadays.. 7-10k perhaps
My sisters a geologist and works for an international fuel exchange organization and has told me plenty of times..
Hell, BMW's come from the factory with synthetic and their first oil change is at 35-50k I believe.
Here's a good article;

The cars were put on a treadmill and run for 200,000 miles. The oil in one car was changed every 7,500 miles and in the second car every 15,000 miles, Maxwell said. At the end of the 200,000 miles, the car's engines were torn down and found to be in perfect condition.
