ok to grind down dowel pin on cam???
ok to grind down dowel pin on cam???
im in the middle of my hotcam install now. the old cam is out, and i am ready to install the new. i knew i had to shorten the dowel because i am sticking with my 94 opti style. my question is.... does the dowel have to be perfectly shaped?? i know the one from the factories is perfectly round. the new dowel also did NOT fit in the gear. so i ended up grinding down the sides in order for it to fit. is this ok?? i want to make sure i didnt mess anything up before i install it and put it back together! i would appreciate any help ASAP!!!! thanks a bunch!
Referencing OBDII optis, GM states the dowel is to be "extended .620" from end of camshaft" (2003 GMPP catalog pg. 80).
Referencing Dynatech opti install tech data "the drive dowel OD: .250" max"
I hope this info helps with your application.

As an additional comment, I just installed a DynaSpark opti and a new Comp Cam in my 97. DynaTech recommends that the dowel be no more than .605" so I ground down the long dowel on the cam to those measurements.
