Is it ok to clean and reuse this part of the opti??

Well I got my new opti and my friend had a brand new GM AC delco cap and rotor for a vented opti. Well I forgot that the plastic piece that is between the cap and the insides of the opti are different. Is it ok to clean and reuse my old one from my non vented cap and rotor? I cleaned it up and it looks almost new now. But I dont know if its a good idea to reuse it. Also Im not sure if you can even buy JUST that part. Please let me know asap. Thanks alot!!

are you talking about the opti's used on the post 95? or whatever? i think they ended up having a better ventilation system. I dont know about using old parts with the new, cause i never disected the newer ones. But typically you cannot buy any individual parts for an opti. Youd have to find one used and use the parts from those. Its exactly what I did with two 94 optis, used my old externals with a new (used purchased from someone from this board) internal (had only 40k on a 94, which is low). i dont 'think' the newer vented versions had different internals..just better venting for any water pump failure leaks into the opti or whatever. If the parts look identical, worse thing that'll happen is it wont work properly. I tore mine out and replaced it (removed everything to get the car running) probobly 10 times in a month. I became an expert at pulling off the front end of those LT1s. (mastered replacing plugs in under 12 minutes, all 8 ). good luck man

Re: Is it ok to clean and reuse this part of the opti??

Thanks for the info. Actually the 92-94 optis are quite a bit different inside. The 92-94 cap doesnt have the opti plug built onto the plastic plate under the rotor that covers all the internails. Also the hole in the center is larger on the 95-97s. The vented opti also has a smaller optical sensor and there isnt the large metal plate under the reluctor wheel. Here are a few pics of the part Im needing to reuse. It cleaned up VERY well and looks almost new. But I dont know if reuseing it will give me any issues in the long run. I also added a pic of the inside of a 92-94 opti just for referance.

I used the vented cap and rotor on a non vented opti, and reused the center plastic plate on my K5, worked fine

Given the amount of visible rust, I wouldn't reuse anything off that opti.

Yeah actually that opti in the pic isnt off my engine. The one that came off my car that I returned for a core was MUCH worse. Here is a pic of it on the counter of the parts store. http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=6/15901165267.jpg&s=f5

The plastic piece from the other opti cleaned up very nice. I think Im just going to go ahead and reuse it. I gotta get this thing up and running. Thanks again for the info.
