oil stains in the garage?
oil stains in the garage?
Hey guys:
I have a 95 Z28 M6. I noticed last week when I was cleaning the garage that there are oil stains on the floor under the car, roughly right under the motor. I've checked periodically since and indeed there are more oil stains about the size of a few quarters. Looks like 6 or 7 different instances. I have felt the most recent stain and it feels 'oily' and is greasy in nature and brown in colour. However, I checked the oil stick and it is right where it was when I changed it last month.
Any ideas?

Oil spots that size only take a few drops, so your oil level isn't gonna go down any. Crawl underneath with a light and see if anything looks damp with oil. Possibly the good ol fashioned intake oil leak.
My car leaked oil bad before, turns out the threaded piece the oil filter screws into came loose...it was a gusher
Pop your hood and give the motor a good inspection, you will probably have to get under the car as well. LT1's are notorious for intake manifold leaks, I had one and the oil came down the front of the engine. If you can't find where its coming from you can add a special dye to your oil. Then under under special light you will be able to pin point the exact leak.
checking your throttle body for leaking oil might tell ya
Doubtful, but you do get some oil in the intake there from that one vacuum hose...doubt it would suck enough oil to actually make it drip if you don't have a good gasket seal though

It might be leaking slightly down around the crank seal or the oil pan gasket at the front of the motor. Mine used to be oily around there before I did the cam and replaced both of those seals. It was usually a very minor leak, not enough to notice a signifigant loss of oil between oil changes.
