oil shot out of dipstick...

What causes this besides head gasket failure? I think it may just be a case of my dipstick being too close to the exhaust. I bent it away some and it hasn't done it since. I've noticed it in the past from a smell and figured out that it was this today. I thought I was leaking or blowing oil, but I'm pretty sure this is where my oil is going.

One other question I have. How can I replace the plastic piece at the top of the tube where the dipstick seats. Mine has cracked recently so it no longer creates a seal there.

Thanks fellas.....

Usually if you are blowing oil out of the dipstick, it is due to reverse compression or in other words blown piston oil rings. A far fetched cause could be that of a really bad clogged pcv system.

Need more info.

so there's no chance of exhaust manifold heat causing this problem? I think its a combination of it being too close to the manifold as well as the fact that my dipstick tube is broken at the top.

BTW: What other info do you need? PCV valve is new. It is the original system for now and the throttle body has all new gaskets up top.

Is there excessive oil going to your trottlebody? Does it blow oil all the time? Did the engine overheat recently?

No, No, and No... I have only smelled the oil for the past two days. But, noticed that I was 1/2qt low for the first time ever.

I do have more than 5 qt's in there, but, I run the M-302 oil filter from Mobil. Per the dipstick, though, it was dead on.

it hasn't done it since I moved the tube away. That must have been the problem. Thanks for all the help.
