that seems a little low, but not crucial. what oil are you running? did you just rebuild it or something, why did you say running again

With my stock pump I was getting ~20 at hot idle and 35-40 cruising. With my new melling 15554 select pump I get ~35 at idle and ~50-55 cruising. If the 20-25 is at idle you should be fine.

There should be around 10 psi for every 1000 rpms.

ex: 1000 rpm = 10 psi
2000 rpm = 20 psi
and so on

with a new motor you should really have a little more pressure than that, what oil pump and spring did you use, did you build it yourself or have someone else do it

If you are monitoring the pressure by the gauge in the dash, you may not be seeing the real pressure. Old pressure senders can be wrong.

What rpm are you idling at? Seems a little bit low but nothing dangerous.

I hot idle at ~22 with 5-30 via an aftermarket electric gauge above my oil filter. Next oil change I am going up to 10-40 though.

With 20psi, as long as it rises with rpms from idle, you are fine.

At hot idle my car runs about 20 psi using mobil 1 5-30. You are probably fine.

My '69 starts at 60 psi cold then drops to 25 at idle when at normal operating temperature.

Take a look at Rob's (shbox.com) tech page. {http://shbox.com/1/engine_specs.jpg}
He's got the factory GM specs page on this page. Look at GM's specs on oil pressure-- you'll be shocked, but this should end all questions to what "should oil pressure be"

~Tom

And remember, NASCAR runs at 8,500rpms for 500 miles with 45 psi of oil pressure!
