oil pressure when the car is dead cold??
Hey, good to see you here! The oil should be building up instantly. Factory spec grade is 5w-30 so if you're running higher numbers it will be thicker.
Worse case is that you're oil pick up screen is clogged with sludge, the oil pump is being restricted, or your rod/main bearings are going.
Make sure that your oil is factory spec and you're running a good filter (Wix, Fram Silver or Black, etc). But, I've heard of some good luck stories with Seafoam. You can get this cleaner at Napa around here. I tried it in my girlfriends car and for some reason her coil went. Absolutely unrelated but the timing was near instant.
There are a few threads here about Seafoam... you can find it with a search on this site.

hi Wild1.......thanks for the reply.....i dont think my oil pressure is normal...when it's dead cold, it's just above the middle gauge...is this normal, i think it should be around 60 PSi right??
I've been the original owner of my 95 and since I've had the car, cold it should be just below the 3/4 mark and hot it rests just below the 1/2 mark. Tough to get an accurate reading about pressure using any dash guage.
It's kind of like getting an accurate fuel reading from your dash guage... 1/2 tank doesn't mean 1/2 tank.
But, if you run a Seafoam cleanse in your oil, you may free up some buildup in the oil galleries and any sludge that may be adding to the problem.
At least you're getting something at start up which isn't bad but isn't in the ideal range. What is the reading when it is hot?

That is a little off topic but I respect free speech. I tend to wander on threads too.
About the 10 PSI per 1000 RPMs is correct. Unfortunately, we have a guage that looks pretty on the dash but is mildly accurate. General rule of thumb is not to go below 20 PSI. But, low oil pressure could be a sign of worn bearings, oil pump deterioration, or a blocked sump screen on the pick up.
Personally, I'd clean the oil system with Seafoam. Then fill with fresh oil and a quality filter. I like the Fram Silver or Black. Again, my personal opinion.

well this site is built on personal opinions so that isn't an issue at all. Anyway, seafoam may be exactly what you need to do. I swear by that stuff, it is awesome. Just follow the directions on the bottle and you're good to go. put it in about 300 or 400 miles before your next oil change and it'll clean that baby right out, and it should help the oil pressure significantly. Good luck
