I was wondering what the effect of having too low of an oil pressure in your car would be. When I start my car cold I have about 50-60 psi of pressure but after driving for a while the pressure will drop low (10-15 psi) at idle and back up to about 40-45 psi when on the gas again. I was wondering if I may possibly be running too thin of an oil. Right now I'm using Mobil 1 10W-30.

I run like 10 psi idle, and maybe 35-40 psi WOT. Ive had a couple people say I need to switch oils. To get more pressure do you want a thicker or thinner oil?

I got 5W-30 in at 162K

 

yeah sounds normal but i noticed a change when i went synthetic ...you can do that just to be safe
