I am seeing more and more problems with the oil pressure droping under hard braking is it possible for so many engines to
have the pick up to fall off? This seems to be a common problem.

I had the same problem... oil pressure dropped to 0 under braking. My pump pickup fell off after an engine rebuild. Had to drop the pan and have it welded together (like I should have done in the first place).

Ditto here guys. Mine did this as well. It would always come right back up to pressure within seconds. I challenged fate though and drove my car like that for over a year without adverse afffect. Sure enough, when I pulled the motor for a rebuild due to broken ring-lands, the pick-up was loose in the pan. YMMV ;-)

mine had fallen off too. I had the dealer fix it and it fell off again two months later, they fixed it for free that time.

LT1's are kinda notorious for pumping the heads full of oil too. It might be that. The drainback characteristics of LT1 heads suck. Under hard braking, most of the oil in the heads goes to the front, where it has roughly half the drain holes to return to the pan through. Coupled with the poor drain characteristics, that can cause what you guys are talking about. Run it 1/2 quart over or port the oil returns in the heads.

Here's a disclaimer:

Don't weld with oil residue anywhere on your engine. Seems like common sense, but I know of people taking the chance and woosh.... Be careful!

will it hurt to run it 1/2 quart over or maybe even a whole quart?

half quart won't hurt, but I wouldn't go full. You're liable to spring some leaks.

why would that cause it to spring a leak?

Runnig it a quart over full will NOT make it leak. How does more oil in the pan equate to more oil pressure? It doesn't.

As long as there aren't air bubbles in the oil when you check it you're fine.

so, it will NOT hurt anything to run an extra quart in it?
