oil pick up question

how far from the bottom of the oil pan do I want the head of the oil pick up? Touching the bottom?? What works as a good spacer for the mock up? I plan marking it where it should be then put a small tack weld on to keep the pick up from falling off.

Thanks!

1/4-3/8" from bottom surface of pickup to pan floor. I like to shoot for 1/4-5/16".

I used a piece of cardboard to mock mine up. Worked great! People also use clay or PlayDough(sp) to measure but like I said, the cardboard worked just fine for me

Re: oil pick up question

There is merit to choosing a hgt. that can discourage sucking up crap from the pan floor on startup.
