oil pan question

What company makes a larger capacity oil pan than stock that fits into a 97 Camaro without modification. I have heard the Canton pan requires shimming motor mounts and the exhaust can be very close if not touching. I am retaining the factory style crossover pipe from the drivers side exhaust to the passenger side.

Re: oil pan question

They make pans with deeper sumps. Why do you need more capacity?

Re: oil pan question

I was just thinking more capacity in the pan and the less likely for the pump to suck it dry. I was using the high volume melling pump with the stock pan and I ended up wiping out all the mains and #8 rod bearing so I am worried about running the pan dry again as I am suspecting that is what happened to this motor. I am switching back to the m-155 pump which is the standard volume with 3/4 pickup and I am going to put a higher rate spring to increase pressure. Should I be looking at something else?

Re: oil pan question

What were you doing to suck the pan dry? Drag racing, Autox, daily driving?

Ok. That's what I figured, but I wanted to make sure. I would use the stock pump with a high pressure spring, but I would look for a baffled pan to keep the oil in the sump.

Re: oil pan question

Standard pump with high pressure spring is good. But if you're having you're engine rebuilt, check with the engine builder to see what he recommends. Some engine builders like to run different clearances on the bearings thus requiring a high volume pump. Just something to keep an eye on. HTH
