You will need to pull the oilpan off and the oil pump reatach the pickup tube and have it tach welded so it dont happen again. But if its a old pump might not be a bad ideal to replace it while you are in there.

if the pump has not been replaced before I would replace it since you have it out anyway and its only like 50-60 bucks for a new one. Its just added security

Yeah, sorry that was kind of a cheap shot. The oil pump & pick up are separate parts purchased separately. If you buy a new pump as stated above buy a new pick up as well. A stock pump is fine you don't need a high volume pump.

There are oil pumps available that have the pickup already permanently mounted to the pump, you just have to search a catalog like Summit or JEGS to find them. Also there are pumps that have pick-up that bolts on, and some with braces eliminating the need for brazing or welding. I've even seen pickups that screw on also eliminating B or W.

If you go with a new pump, check out those that have pressure equalizing grooves on the cap and inside the pump body. Those grooves eliminate pump gear chatter resulting in smoother oil flow into and out of the pump. It's an 'Ole Racer's' trick now used by Moroso and perhaps others in their high quality pumps. Be sure that the pump has been pressure tested, it should be listed in the ad.

Also, you just have to be sure that the pickup distance to the bottom of the oil pan is correct. That's critical!
