oil pan

Why won't my oil pan come off? Its not hitting the crossmember has all the bolts out but only drops down about an inch then hangs. Is pump pickup line hanging on something inside? I can't get it down enough to look inside, does it need to go forward or backward?
Someone let me know, its driving me nuts

the pick up itself sits in a recess of baffles but it usually drops out until it his the cross member then you jack the motor up or drop the k member until you have clearance from the crank. try pushing it back into place and dropping it straight down and keep it level until it hits the k member.

Did you back the timing cover off? It can hang on that as well.

timing cover is off. thats why I have to pull the pan, it has to have a new gasket. Its in an 84' silverado so I have about 3-4 in from the pan to the cross member and it acts like its hanging inside the pan. So it "should" just drop straight down and clear the baffles?

The pan is made to go on after and seal to the timing cover, so that should not be an issue.

Sounds like the OP made the mistake of not dropping the front of the pan to remove the timing cover. Try dropping the pan straight down, them moving it forward until the pump pickup clears the pan baffle. You may even have to rotate the engine a little, if it hangs on any of the crank throws. The level sensor needs to be out, as already mentioned.

Well I "manhandled" it off and figured out why it wouldn't come down
wish I would have checked the post followups first
