Oil down front of timing cover
Oil down front of timing cover
95 LT1 that was rebuilt 10K ago. Trying to find a leak, oil is dripping down the front of the timing cover and dripping off of the silver line that runs underneath the timing cover. It is running around the seal for the harmonic balancer so its not that. Could it be the seal for the opti or the o-rings for the water pump? I don't know if there is oil at either of those seals just trying to throw things out there above the balancer. Maybe the front of the intake manifold?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
front of the intake? very possible. Intake leaks are very very common. Wipe it down all clean, and then drive it some and see if you can tell where its coming from. My intake leaked from both front and back on my 95...Also my timing cover leaked as well, but it sounds like its leaking from above the timing cover from what you're saying.
I would bet front of the intake, but I would suggest cleaning it up and checking to be sure.

There are 2 seals above the crank. The one that runs the opti-spark and the one the runs the water pump. I have the same exact problem! I have changed the seal to the waer pump twice now and it keeps leaking really bad! I have also changed the gear assy thinking that was the issue. to say the least, it isn't an easy fix. The timing cover is a total PITA to get into place due to the oil pan needing to be loosened completely to seal to the timing cover. Be sure to install the opti and waterpump seals after the timing cover is installed. There is no other way to do this! I am seriously fed up with the LT-1 bull**** and really wish GM would have thought about how they designed their engines before releasing this piece of ****.

Thanks 95 TA. I actually changed the intake manifold gasket today because I'm familiar with the leaking problems and am waiting to start it up tom to see if I fixed it.
Josievers - So there is oil behind the water pump and opti seals? I have heard that if it is the waterpump then oil would leak out of the weep hole in the bottom of the waterpump. That might help you determine which seal it is. Also I think there is two o rings for the water pump, are you changing both of them? Good luck with the leak
