Oil after a cam swap

Is it normal to have small (really small) metal shavings in your oil? Not a whole lot just a few here and there.

no, immediately drain it, and refill and re filter. I would run it for 5 min and then drain it again and repeat above. Then check it again.

Did you put in another cam?

Yes, it is normal to collect metal particles. That's why they sell magnetic drain plugs so that you can collect it and remove it at your oil change.

Visable metal shavings in your oil is not a good or normal condition. If you can see them, you have issues

Re: Oil after a cam swap

I've done a cam swap approx. 1000 miles ago, changed oil several times, but metal shavings never showed up, not even after the "30 min-2500 rmp" initial break-in...

Metal flakes big enough to see floating around???... no, that's not good. BUT... any one of you can swap your drain plug out for a magnetic one and you WILL have metal shaving stuck to it at your next oil change.

Yeah like other have said I dont think you should be any visible metal shavings or flakes in the oil but if you have one of those magnetic drain plugs then you will always find small particals on it... normal wear and tear.
