Oil Additives

I have a lifter that is ticking and the dealer told me to put an oil additive in the engine to help recondition the lifter and it maybe would stop ticking. Is this really true and if so, what kind of additive is best? Mobil 1 or something? Thanks

what oil do you use now? I use mobil 1 and it is great... plus it is relaly good on the car. If it is your first time using synthetic oil, you may get a few leaks becasue is so much thinner. I am not sure what "lifter" additive there is but I am sure there is one.. I don't know if this is much help but I tried

If you want to clean out your engine, there is one product I've used which works extremely well:

www.auto-rx.com

It cleans slowly using natural esters which do an incredible job while not hurting your engine in any way. You run this product for about 1500 miles, and it does not thin out your oil at all like normal engine flushes.

I've run this stuff and it works! It quieted down my engine and I saw a drastic improvement in my wear numbers in oil analysis. It also allows your oil to last longer after you use this stuff, since your engine's internals end up being so clean.

Oil Additives = JUNK!!!!

But you could use that prolong stuff, I heard that stuff is pretty good. Hell you can even pour rocks in your engine

Yeah, I've dealt with several tapping lifters on my truck with the 383 in it. I went through every additive at autozone and the only one I had moderate success with was STP oil treatment. However, I think it was because it is basically super thick oil, which disguises the sound for a while (like 4 days). Nothing you do will "recondition" the lifter -- it's already shot. The best thing to do is to not waste your money on any of that and start working on getting it changed.

Nobody said anything about adding Seafoam to your engine.
