Question Ohio E-Check?

Has anyone on this board who lives in Ohio successfully passed E-Check sans cats and AIR,EGR?? Or for that matter has anyone had much luck with this type of emissions check in another state?

I'm not sure where you're from, but Ohio doesn't test for emissions.

I live in Erie County Now we don't have E-Check It's up to the county. But when I lived in lorain county I did. The take a Mirror to check and see if you have a cat and if you don't the'll fail you, if you have a gutted cat, it just depends on your emissions levels. Make sure you have fresh Premium gas and use some alcohol additive on about 1/4 of a tank. also the Lorain test facility is pretty lax. and the Vermilion License Beurau (Prob Spelled Wrong ) is in erie county so they might not ask you for a test report!

Sorry maybe I wasnt specific enough, only a minority of the counties in Ohio test for it and my county Summit happens to be one and its a bi-annual test. For the test itself they put your car on a dyno roller instrument and hook a tube up to your exhaust pipe so if anyone else is familiar with this type of test please respond.

My bad, I didn't know it was by county. I didn't want to sound like a d!ck, just trying to help out. Anway, to answer your question, I'm pretty sure that you will fail emissions. Not having the cat will surely fail you. The !air and !egr, I'm not sure.

the AIR and EGR shouldn't if you don't have an SES light for them. But I don't know everyone I know that has modded their car always has cats. If your emissions levels are low then you'll pass give it a try get some dry gas and put it in with 1/4 tank of ultra 94! We really don't have that bad of a test from what I have read. They never really examine the car!

Also Make sure your car is warmed up!!!! if you have a 160 stat, you may want to put the stock one back in. a warmer engine runs cleaner

They just put a a mirror under the car to see if you have cats on there. They are untrained idiots. They wont ever pop the hood, so dont worry about EGR and stuff.

I would just put in some fake cats. leave in the 160 stat, and have the fans running rull time, then cross 2 plug wires. You will fail. Next time at retest, fix plug wires, put in 180 stat, raise fan temps way up. You will see a 20% improvement which means you pass automatically. Go ahead and ask me how i know

Who knows, there is also a law that if you can prove you spent a certain amount of money trying to fix the problem, they will pass you automatically. I think it may be $250, but i dont remember for sure. Like that would be hard to fake sales receipts

Why is there a law for emissions anyway? If you look at the facts, cars do not contribute to pollution as much as some people think. (hopefully this doesn't get off topic).
