Off road pipe

All the off road pipes I'm seeing are $120 or so. Would it be cheaper to have an exhaust shop weld in a pipe. I'm getting headers over the winter and it seems kind of expensive for a short piece of pipe. Also, there aren't emissions here, but I thought that tampering with pollution controls was a serious no-no. Has any one got caught yet, and if so what happened? The manufacturers of all the off road pipes cover there as**s by saying not for use on public roadways. Anyone?

You could probably do it cheaper yourself. I know I wanted to do this earlier this year, but the exhaust shop said they wouldn't touch my car. Even though we don't have emissions they could get into trouble if they mess with the converter.

I would see if you can get a 3" piece of piping and put it up there and then take to the shop just for a weld...they might not have a problem with that.

When I had my pipe put in I had just put in my hooker shorties. When I drove up I had no cat, the area was empty, with the new cat back on. They made a pipe and welded it on for 100. Yes not cheap considering such a small pipe but what else could I do so I paid in cash.

I went to a small shop and it was empty that day so I knew they were going to do it. So got to a small shop during the week and you should be set.

Thanks guys. Can you get busted though for removing the cat? Would it be easier to just gut the cat, at least then it still looks like it is there?

Cat gutted here... Or is it You just cant tell. Some people say dont gut the cat because it dosent do anything. I have had no problems and the resonance is very minimal. Plus, when you look at it, well it looks completely stock

Good luck

Dustin

If you gut the cat... sleeve it. Otherwise you will harmonic resonance due to the shape of the hollow cat. YES, you can get nailed for altering your exhaust! But you can also get a ticket for speeding ... Weigh your sins and pray for forgiveness

I bought my headers and y-pipe together. I paid about $450 all together. I went with Mac equal length and off road pipe. The y-pipe did not use the second set of O2 sen, so I had to pick up a set of O2 sims. It gave the a real agressive sound.

my plug access is much better than stock. Thats one reason why people decide to get mac mid length headers.
