obdII timing cover

I just bought a long block out of an obdI car and was wondering what I need to do as far as the timing cover goes. Noticed the CPS on my '96 motor that this one does not have. I don't want to swap the timing covers because with my gasket work, it'll probably leak when I'm done.

Any ideas?

Don't know if it is possible to have the CPS programmed out of an OBD-II car. It is only used for detecting misfires and won't affect performance. Of course, it would cost you some $$ to have it done.

IMO, I would just swap the covers and be done with it. You must keep the reluctor ring and crank hub with the CPS timing cover.

Did the long block come with with a crank hub? I don't think you can use a 96-97 crank hub on an ODBI engine, they are different lengths.

What do you recommend, obdI conversion?

You can delete the CPS via LT1 edit. This is what Im going to have to do with my double roller timing chain.
