OBDII to OBDI PCM Conversion Questions!!

I have a 96 Z28 but I wanted to get an OBDI computer to run in it only when I'm racing. Then switch them back around when just driving around. The reason is I have OBDI Tuning software and OBDII Software is just too expensive so I just wanted to know what YR PCM Should I get 94 or 95 and what will be some problems or what will not be used on the OBDI system, as in my sensors? Thanks Mike

(see item #5)

Why would you swap the OBD2 back for the street?

Oh, and as far as the sensors differences - do a search.

The OBDI doesn't have rear O2 sensors or Crank sensor and the Knock sensor is different resistance which is what is modified in the OBD1 conversion from MadZ28. Why would you switch back on the street? Just use the tuned OBDI and use the power you gain with the tune.

my rear o2's are deleted already and I have an x-pipe and I could tune the knock sensor or use an OBDI style on my car. Switching back because of inspection problems will arise.

I swapped to OBD1 and there just isnt a point to switchin back and forth...I actually get better mileage after the swap...and all my gadgets n gizmos (cruise control, etc...) run fine.

May not be a lot of point to switching back and forth, but when due for smog/inspection if the car is OBDII it needs to be.. welll OBDII, not OBDI.. but I would only switch to go to smog/inspection.. not every week, etc..

Program the knock sensor out and just plug the computer in. I did it on a buddies car. He has a 96 Z and I have a 94 Z. Mine was dead for a few years and he had a depressing dyno run. He had 241 to the ground with some rockers and exhaust, cold air and a couple of small things. Swapped the computer and he picked up 32rwhp to the ground.

If you get the conversion computer then your OBDII knock sensor will still work. He modifies the circuit inside the pcm case. Then switching back and forth is still possible.
