Considering a cam change to step up from my CC304. Been thinking about the XE 224/230 or maybe a combo XE grind 218/230 for a bit better low end driveability.

But, on the chance I go crazy and step up to something like a 224/236, I want to know what I'm going to run into in terms of PCM issues, specifically the crank position sensor picking up the lope as missfires.

I could turn it off in the PCM with LT1 edit, but I live in an emissions county so I am subject to the new OBD2 PCM emissions testing and I believe turning off the crank sensor codes is an automatic fail.

Anyone have any experience with this? At what point does it become a problem (cam size).

Not sure if there a size that acts as a boundry but my 226/230 cam caused the mulitple misfire code. It was a 114lsa and didnt lope all that much but did set codes all the time. We took the car out and logged data, etc and found no actual misfire...just the sensor going nuts.

If you get the code, big deal, it doesnt mean anything(as long as you know the cause of course!) as far as driving, power etc...

What also is interesting was this cam never caused a missfire with an Ed Wright tune...but did with a dyno tune.....

 

I know the code isn't a big deal, I actually get it now occasionally because my Opti is beginning to slowly go south.

But, as I said, I live in an emissions county with the new OBD2 diagnostic testing and the presence of the code will cause a fail on the test and turning off the code will as well I believe, so effectively I'm limited on cam size to whatever will not trip the code.
