OBD1 to OBD2 on a 94
OBD1 to OBD2 on a 94
Switching to OBD2 so I can have more RPM allowance.
i dont care about the knock sensor, its a SR and wont be used anyways. Dont care about CPS sensor either.
Question is, can I communicate and flash with the PCM through the ALDL, or must I convert to OBD2 style connector under the dash?
If I must convert, will the 95 OBD2 connection work, or only 96-97?
And finally will my obd2 style connecter yet obd1 cable (95 model year basically) from AKM work, or do I need a new one?

Re: OBD1 to OBD2 on a 94
7000 RPM not enough for ya?
First off... I've gone the other way, OBDII to OBDI, so I don't have any practical experience to offer. At any rate, from what I've read...
Your OBDI cable will not work. In fact, according to Andrew's site (AKM), none of his cables are OBDII-compatable.
Also, whatever OBDI flashing, tuning, and datalogging programs you have won't work with an OBDII PCM either. But you probably already know that.
You'd probably need to switch to the OBDII ALDL connector in the car, since (I'd assume, anyways) all the OBDII-compatable cables would use the OBDII connector.
Many OBDI guys that go OBDII are auto-trans guys that do it to cure the high-RPM stall issues that crop up with OBDI..... others (like me) went the other way to be able to use the cheaper and more common datalogging/tuning software for OBDI. Of course, I shift at ~6400, so I can live with the OBDI RPM limit.

Re: OBD1 to OBD2 on a 94
Nope 7k isnt going to cut it. My first try at this combo peaked at 5500 or something, so trying again this time, hehe. Pretty sure its going to rev
Thanks for the info. I now know I need an obd2 connector (assume 96-97 style), and designated obd2 cable. Now about the wiring needed...
Already knew my software wasnt going to work, no biggy there. Thanks again for the help.
