You can get some basic code readers for under $50. If you want to see hard data/parameters, I like my AutoXray 5000.

was actually hoping to find something that would do both obd 1 and 2. the basic code readers under 50 are garbage and do nothing on the 94. looking to spend a bit more money

found autoxray 5000 listed for 279 on one site(cheapest i found) and theres one up for auction on ebay for 155 with 5 days left. what did you pay for yours?

As posted, the Autoxray 5000 will do OBDI and OBDII. Actron also has some hand held scan tools.

I have the Actron cp9145. Very pleased with it. Does everything I need a scan tool to do. It comes in the 9150 kit with all of the cables you will need to hook up to almost everything. I got mine off ebay for around $280

I got the kit for ~$300 or so, can't remember. It came with a Ford, Dodge, & GM OBD 1 and a non-specific OBD2 cable. I have since added a few other manufacturer-specific cables to it along with the PC-Link so I can download updates off their site. I've got a little over $400 into everything now I s'pose. Saved me and others a lot of money. Couple guys paid for two of my cables since they're only about $30 each and a shop as you know will easily charge double that and more.

seems like this is the way to go, read some reviews about the actron, and it seems like the auto xray is the better bang for the buck
